CCH is a leader in the Responsible Budget Coalition, which released this statement on May 27 regarding General Assembly budget action:
This spring lawmakers – reflecting the views of business leaders, human service providers, educators, seniors, and everyday families – have consistently registered their opposition to budget proposals that impose drastic and short-sighted cuts to services for families and communities.
Instead of the severe cuts originally proposed by the Governor, budget bills that do more to invest in services that make Illinois families and communities strong are currently being considered by the General Assembly.
The Governor and the General Assembly have many revenue options available to them that will produce a responsible state budget with adequate revenue to avoid cuts and make wise investments for the future. They must work together to develop the revenue solutions necessary to produce such a budget.
With the July 1 start to the new fiscal year quickly approaching, it’s time for the Governor and the General Assembly to focus on finding real revenue solutions so Illinois can invest in its children, families and communities.

The Responsible Budget Coalition (RBC) is a large and diverse coalition of 200 organizations concerned about state budget and tax issues. It includes organizations that serve children, families, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities; education groups concerned about early learning, K-12 and higher education; labor unions; faith-based and civic organizations; and many others.
The individual organizations that belong to the RBC represent a diverse range of interests but are united by these three common principles:

· No more cuts to vital programs and services
· Fairness in raising revenue and making any cuts caused by failure to raise adequate revenue
