Taishi has found her public voice – now she’s a leader on her Local School Council

Still, Taishi thought she was too quiet to speak up.

Then she met a community organizer from the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. He was running an outreach session, telling parents at her transitional housing program how they could work with the coalition to remedy school issues faced by homeless families.  Continue reading Taishi has found her public voice – now she’s a leader on her Local School Council

Responsible Budget Coalition: On the failure of state leaders to reach another budget agreement

Chicago Coalition for the Homeless is a partner in the Responsible Budget Coalition.

Springfield – The regular session of the General Assembly ended last night at midnight and there was no agreement reached on a fiscal year 2016 or fiscal year 2017 budget. However, with the November general election and the partisan warfare intensifying, there is a real threat that no budget agreement will be reached until after the November general election, if ever.  Continue reading Responsible Budget Coalition: On the failure of state leaders to reach another budget agreement

Urge Gov. Rauner to sign $700M emergency funding bill for human service providers

A $700 million emergency funding bill to pay human service providers is still awaiting approval or veto by Gov. Bruce Rauner.

Advocates fear Rauner will veto the bill sent to him on May 18, after passing the Illinois House and Senate.  The governor has told the media that he does not want to allow funding measures that are “a short-term thing” instead of “a grand bargain.”

ACTION ALERT: Can you please help us in urging the governor to sign Senate Bill 2038? We are asking people to participate until the governor’s July 17 signing deadline.  Continue reading Urge Gov. Rauner to sign $700M emergency funding bill for human service providers
