Giving Tuesday – support homeless youth

Homeless YouthThis Tuesday, Dec. 3 is “Giving Tuesday” and CCH is inviting its community of contributors to participate by supporting our weekly outreach to homeless youth. Click here to donate.

To make your contribution more impactful, the Pierce Family Foundation has generously offered to match your gift – 50 cents for every $1 given to this campaign.

Your tax deductible donation will help underwrite the cost of H.E.L.L.O, a weekly youth activism group for unaccompanied and street youth. The youth themselves chose the group’s name, which stands for “Homeless Experts Living Life’s Obstacles.”

Many of the youth have been cast out by their families, with no permanent place to stay. Since 2005, H.E.L.L.O. has been our ongoing effort to make certain that no youth is left without a voice or our support.

To these young men and women, the Tuesday evening meetings in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood are a source of moral support, positive youth development, as well as a place to build rapport. About 20 youth attend meetings at the Broadway Youth Center site, hosted by Wellington UCC Church. CCH staffs the weekly meetings, including two youth attorneys, a youth policy specialist, and an organizer who offers a creative writing outreach program.

Most importantly, the H.E.L.L.O. group gives participants a chance to use their voice, tell their personal story and advocate for the change that is necessary to improve the lives of homeless youth and the community.

A contribution of

  • $6 would provide two CTA passes for a youth to attend a Tuesday evening meeting
  • $24 would provide two CTA passes for four youth to attend a Tuesday night meeting
  • $50 would provide dinner for the entire group at a Tuesday night meeting
  • $75 would cover art supplies for one of the many therapeutic workshops the group holds

Contributions of all sizes are welcome.  It is your generosity that makes a program like H.E.L.L.O. possible.
