Fighting for Human Rights
Following from the mission of the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, the Law Project has worked to advance the moral imperative that housing is a human right.
The Law Project was active in arranging a visit to Chicago by Miloon Kothari, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing. The Special Rapporteur met with public housing residents at Cabrini-Green and learned about homelessness caused by the destruction of public housing.
The Law Project gathered members of the community for a human rights training in Chicago with housing rights activists from the Center on Housing Rights and Evictions.
Laurene Heybach, the Director of the Law Project, participated in a hearing on the right to housing in the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights along with international advocates and grass roots organizations.
