The Speakers Bureau
The Speakers Bureau at the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) is staffed by 15 men and women who have experienced homelessness. Our team involves the most active leaders at CCH, people with experience advocating on issues related to school access, housing and jobs. CCH staff are also available to make presentations or accompany leaders on panel discussions.
Our topics include:
- Homeless families and affordable housing
- Educational rights of homeless students
- Surviving prostitution and trafficking
- Job training and living wage jobs
- Community organizing and shelter outreach
- Community reentry after incarceration
During FY 2010, Bureau speakers reached an audience of 4,290 at 81 venues, usually religious, civic, university and school groups.

Speakers Bureau members Mary Baker and Carmelita Dowd spoke to a Brownie troop at Oak Park's Mann School.
