This Thursday, join the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) in
a community rally against the “doomsday budget” OK’d by the Illinois
General Assembly earlier this week.
CCH expects hundreds to join the protest outside the
state’s Thompson Center, 171 W. Randolph, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday,
June 18.
Bring your signs, and tell a friend to join us, too! We need your help in
speaking out against cutbacks that will hurt children and teens, the
working poor, families struggling with homelessness – as
well as cuts to a state safety net for those managing to stay afloat
during a prolonged recession.
Thursday’s rally precedes a noon meeting between Gov. Quinn and legislative leaders.
Cutbacks include:
- Homeless teens will have fewer shelters and street programs to help them get housed and back in school
- A dramatic drop in homeless prevention grants available to struggling families
- 80,000 low-wage mothers will lose a childcare subsidy that allows
them to hold jobs and pay thousands of home daycare providers
- 40,000 fewer homecare workers who serve the elderly
- 190,000 students will lose college scholarship aid
- 65,000 people will be kicked out of alcohol and drug addiction treatment programs
- Reduced mental health services for 175,000 people
- 50% cut in payments to foster care parents
- Preschool for All funding
We hope to see you there.
